DIY Month/Date Perpetual Calendar

My MoMA inspired cube calendar was a hit last year, so I wanted to share an another DIY calendar idea that can be made with simple supplies. I came up with this idea as I always use to struggle when I want to type/write the present date because I am more use to dd/mm/yyyy growing up in India and I always think twice when I wanted to write the date as mm/dd/yyyy . Let's see how.

Materials Required:
Card stock in two colors
Wooden dowel
Cardboard
Hot glue gun
Scrapbook paper
Black Marker pen
Utility knife
Hole punch
Two wooden cut pieces/buttons (optional)
Mod lodge or any paper glue

Step 1: Measure and cut the card stock with craft knife or scissors.you should have 12 pieces for months and 31 for dates and few extra if you want some blanks.Use a hole punch to punch holes a little away from the edge as shown below.Make sure the hole is big enough for the wooden dowel to go through.

Measurement:

For months : 3.5" X 1.25"
For date      : 2.5" X 1.25"

Step 2: Write the numbers for dates(1-31) in yellow card stock pieces and months(1-12) in pic card stock pieces using marker pen .

Step 3:  Take the cardboard and trace it with a card stock pieces as guide as shown below to make a holder for the card stock pieces.Leave a little gap on the side and the top to make it easy for changing dates. Collect all the card stock pieces together and measure the width to trace the center part. Score the center parts of the cardboard with knife to make it easy for folding .

Step 4: Use mod podge and cover the card stock with scrap book paper.

Step 5: Trim the wooden dowel to required size using utility knife and glue one end of the dowel to the one side of the cardboard piece.

Step 6: Put all the card stock pieces in the reverse order and upside down into the wooden dowel and glue the other end to the other side. And that's it. Decorate the front of the cardboard with marker pens. I used my black pen to write a quote in the front. When you want to change the month/date, the card stock pieces easily slides off of the cardboard box, you can pick the one you want and put the rest again into the box. Simple , isn't it?

If you want to put these into a cup holder and save space, you can also display them vertically. I skipped the cardboard part for this and used my electronic die cutting machine to cut months part and I printed out the dates part in white card stock. Used a wooden dowel (5/8" size) and secured it with a pre cut flower wooden piece. If you can't find pre cut wooden piece like shown here, you can also use a button to secure the ends.

Do you have a electronic cutting machine and looking for template?

The measurements shown here might be big or small for some cup holders, so adjust it according to the cup holder you are using to make the month/date card stock piece stand straight. If you are planning to make these as gifts, make a small container with cardboard that fits all the card stock sheets in so the recipient can adjust the height by pulling the container if they want to. This calendar can be easily made with any kind of material to make it more sturdier like chipboard, wood, etc.

You can also include some blank card stock pieces  at the ending cover them with a shipping tape so that it can be used as dry erase board to leave some message to fellow workers at office or if you are using it at home, it can be used to things to buy/remember , etc.

Hope you liked this simple perpetual calendar idea for this year. If you want to include a simple handmade gift to your christmas gift list, this is a perfect one! Do try it and let me know how it turned out.As always I will be happy to hear from you. Share with me in the comments below on what you think of this idea. If you are doing this, what will be your color choices? Don't forget to share a picture and tag me in any of my social media if you do this calendar. I would love to see them and share it with my other readers.
