DIY round Perpetual Calendar with free printable template + free cut files for Silhouette

I love perpetual calendars. I have already shared two of those in the past two years. Following the tradition this year, I came up with the idea of a round perpetual calendar. When it comes to crafts, I always love making stuff with the hand rather than designing them digitally and putting it together. But this idea requires some designing. It is not that it can't be done with just paper and pen, the outcome will be neat and crisp if it is done digitally. So I took the challenge and started designing the calendar in Silhouette software. I don't know illustrator or photoshop much so I went with the Silhouette software for designing.Even though I am not a PRO at designing in Silhouette software, I had that confidence that I can pull this idea together as I have done a couple of projects in the software. It took me five trials to get it right and I am so happy with the result. I am sharing a free template(Which doesn't require Silhouette) and also a cut file which you can use with the Silhouette.Without much ado, let's get to the making.

How to make a round perpetual calendar using silhouette or printer

Materials Required:

Cardstock in desired colors
Silhouette machine or (craft knife & Scissors)
Gemstones/Stickers/markers/paint for decoration
Adhesive magnet or thumb tack (Optional)

Silhouette Version:

Step 1: Open the cut file from the download link below and load it in your Silhouette software. Separate each dial according to your printer capacity and print the templates with registration marks. I used 8.5" x 11" cardstock and printed the date dial in one, month & day dial in another.Adjust your registration marks accordingly.

Step 2: Once your template is printed, load them into your machine and use the cut settings for cardstock to cut the templates according to your color choice. I directly cut the front part(Teal part shown below) and the sleeve(pink cardstock shown below).

Step 3: Glue the sleeve part to the front part ensuring all the cut outs matches. Use a brad to assemble the template. (Front part, three dials and then the back of the sleeve). The Calendar is now done.

Step 4: The rest that is left is decorating. Do whatever your heart desires. I used Silhouette printable gold foil and cut some circles to decorate the front and added some silver rhinestones in between. I really love how the blinged Calendar looks.

Step 1: Download and print the pages in Actual size. Don't change or select fit to size.

Step 2: Use scissors and craft knife to cut the template. Follow the same steps as the previous version for assembling the calendar.

Step 3: Decorate the front part as your heart desires. I used dry brush strokes using black acrylic paint to give a modern touch to this monochromatic perpetual calendar.

Here is a black and white version of this DIY round Perpetual calendar

You can omit the front part if you don't want, here is an example of how the calendar looks without the front part.

Other points to be noted:

  • Make sure the brad's you use fits snuggle in the center holes. If it is not, you might want to decrease or increase the size according to your brad's size in order avoid the misalignment of the dials.

  • There is an inch of a gap on the top of the sleeve - It is with a purpose so that you can use a thumb tack to hang the calendar. It is perfect for office desk with the cubicle.

  • If you don't want to poke a hole, you can use a strip of Adhesive magnet on the back of the sleeve to use it as a fridge magnet or on any magnetic surface.

How simple and easy is this perpetual calendar idea?  I have shown three different ways to make and decorate this calendar but there are a lot of ways you can decorate and play with this idea. Hope you will give this calendar a try. Share with me what you think about this idea in the comments below. As always I will be happy to hear from you.
