DIY planters from yogurt containers

After a very long gap, here I am with a DIY. Weather is finally warming up and it is time to sow some seeds and enjoy the spring. I don't have a green thumb but I try hard to maintain my plants and I'm positive one day I will grow plants that produce veggies/fruits/ flowers. I got a couple of growing kits from Five below to start with. When my mother-in-law visited us she collected a lot of yogurt container saying she will come up with a use for it. I said her I will keep it as long as she is here and then I will recycle it. In the end, I came with this idea of using it as planters for my plants. Let's see how I did it.

Materials Used:
Big Yogurt containers
Acrylic paint
Utility knife
Marker
Foam brush
Drill
Stamp (Optional)
Gold Marker (Optional)

Step 1: Mark the length of the container using a marker and use a utility knife to cut it. If you have a small container you can use it as such. Since I have a bigger one, I decided to cut the top part and use it as a saucer and bottom part as a planter.

Step 2: Use a drill to make some holes at the bottom of the planter to let the excess water. Now, the container is ready to use as a planter. If you want to add some color, proceed to the next step.

Step 3: Apply three to four coats of acrylic paint in your desired color choice using a foam brush. If the weather condition is good, I would suggest using spray paint instead of acrylic paint as it is easier to get good coverage.

Step 4: Once the paint is dry, I decided to use stamps to add some flower patterns all around. Take a little amount of paint and brush it over the stamp. Press it down firmly on the container. Add a line of gold with a marker on the top to finish the look. The container is now ready for the plants to go in.

Here is how they look in those mini pots. Right now, I am in India for vacation and hubby it taking care of the plants. I can't wait for it to grow taller so that I can transfer them to these pretty pots.

Isn't it such a simple recycle idea? What do you think? Share them in the comments below. Do you have any simple planters ideas? Let us know in the comments below. I also made some plant markers from popsicle sticks which I will share in another post very soon.
