I came up with this idea of making a DIY bulldozer toy using things at home like a cereal box, bottle caps from milk jugs, empty paper towel roll, etc when we didn't get what we wanted. My son loves to play with all sorts of construction vehicles and he likes to carry his tools box around the house pretending like he is fixing everything. So I was looking for a toy that involves construction with tools, the one I got ended up having too many small parts(like screws and nuts) that were not staying in place after constructing. The only thing we made from that building set was a bulldozer toy. My son got attached it to after playing for 2-3 days that he doesn't want to return the toy. I promised I will make a Bulldozer toy for him and he agreed and gladly said bye-bye to the toy we got. So, here is how I made the bulldozer toy.

It was a surprise to myself because I totally forgot that I have these boxes. I thought this will be the perfect time to use all those cereal boxes and come up with a new idea. Before all this lockdown came into action, I got few spice containers from IKEA to organize my kitchen cabinets. After filling them with spices I found it not quite accessible, it was difficult to find that one container I was looking for and containers falling down as I had them stacked up due to space constraints. So, I thought these cereal boxes will be a perfect solution to organize the spice containers and to make it easy for access. Let's see how I did it. 

DIY Pentagon Popsicle Sticks Shelf

Are you bored of seeing popsicle stick hexagon shelf ideas? Why not try a new shape with the craft sticks? I tried a pentagon-shaped shelf and it turned out cute and perfect for air plants. This is a project which I started making on the spot with no idea what I am making. I came up with this design when I wanted to test the strength of wood glue before using it for some other project as this is the first time I am trying wood glue. While this thought was running at the back of my mind, I found this cardboard box in our storage room and the moment I saw the box it screamed "DIY play kitchen". The shape was perfect for the layout I wanted and here is how I made this play kitchen.

How to add heat transfer vinyl to faux leather using home iron

I came up with this idea of personalized purses when I was brainstorming gift ideas for my son's daycare teachers. I wanted a simple personalized gift in which I can add the gift cards to give it to the teachers. I came across these gold and rose gold purses in Target's bullseye playground and instantly grabbed 4 of them. (No! I'm wrong!) To be honest, I did hesitate a little bit as I have never used HTV on faux leather but you know I love challenges. I put up a post on the Silhouette cutting machine group whether this will work and got a response from a person that" It will melt".And I was like "Ah! It looks like I need to return them back and look for another gift." 

Then I searched in google looking for a tutorial on applying vinyl to faux leather. I came up with a tutorial but they were using the Teflon pillow and Teflon sheet to protect the faux leather and I don't have those and also don't want to buy them just for this project. Then I searched for an alternate solution and ended up in a tutorial where the person uses parchment paper but she used htv on a real leather notebook. I thought why not give a try and decided to try it with parchment paper and a towel inside the purse and it worked. What I learned from this project is there is no need to purchase every new item described to try a new project. Experiment with what you already have on hand. Do you agree? DIY Acrylic poured big wood ornament

I got a pouring medium sample from the Plaid crafts company and wanted to try acrylic pouring with that for the past two months. .I wanted the project to be published in the mid of November, so I thought I will do a Christmas themed one. I came across this big wood sign ornament from Dollar tree and wanted to try acrylic pouring on that but I could get only one as it was out of stock. I was positive I could find another one in some other Dollar tree shops. But I wasn't lucky enough so I gave up on that project. Last Friday, When I went to the Dollar tree I came across the same wood sign and grabbed to try this. So I tried it this weekend and here is how it turned out.  

Materials Used:

Big ornament shaped Wood sign

Acrylic paints

Pouring medium

Paper cups & popsicle sticks for mixing 

Trash bags or Newspapers for protecting the surface. 

Ribbon and glue (optional) for decoration

Step 1: Mix equal parts of pouring medium and paint in cups. Do this for all the colors you want to use. 

Step 2: Pour a little bit of each paint one after the other in a separate cup. I made sure to alternate between dark and light colors. 

Step 3: Since I tried the straight pour last time when I tried acrylic pouring, this time I tried dirty pour and flip cup method combined. For this, after pouring the paints in a separate cup, I placed the wood sign on top of the cup and flipped it so that the paint gets transferred onto the wood surface. 

Step 4: Swirl the paint around to cover the wood sign. Mix some more paint to cover the areas where the paint did not reach and swirl it again. Place the sign on top of something high so that the excess paint drips and the sign dries. It took around 8 to 10 hours to dry completely. 

I also tried dirty pour on 2 square panels to finish the mixed paints. 

Step 5: Add any decoration as desired. I used hot glue and ribbon to decorate the corners of the ornament and then made a loop to hang with another ribbon. Used the same type of ribbon and covered the top to look like an ornament. I also added two jingle bells at the bottom using some sewing thread to add some sweet touch to the ornaments ;)

How fun and simple was that? This is a totally fun project that you can do to decorate your house. If you are looking for something out of the ordinary to decorate your house for holidays or parties, this is a must-try. You can add some vinyl words in the middle to make it a signboard since I wanted to highlight the marble effect from pouring I left as is. You can refer to my previous project on how I added a decal sticker to make the acrylic poured wood panel as a wall decor piece.

Make your own toys with hook and loop fasteners(Velcro)

My son loves the fruit toys that come with the hook & loop fasteners in the middle. He likes to use the plastic knife and cut it. So, I thought I will make some DIY hoop and loop fastener toys for him so that he can learn colors, shapes and build structures with it. I browsed the dollar tree store for wood items that I can turn into DIY toys and found the alphabet blocks which will be perfect as velcro blocks which he can cut as he does with the fruits.  Jenga blocks in case he wants to build anything he can use those for arms and legs and then popsicle sticks for building shapes. Also, I made this to entertain him on the long flight journey and it worked. Let's see how I made them.

How to make customized onesies

It's been almost a year since I made this project and  I wanted to test it to make sure the paint worked before posting it and then life had crazy plans because of which I couldn't blog much. Here it is finally. It is perfect little DIY if you want to make something with your hands for your expecting friends, niece or nephew. I made these onesies when my son started talking words. He was pointing to the toys he played and tried to say "Monkey" , "Dinosaur" and stuffs like that. So I made him these onesies. I got multipack onesies during thanksgiving sale and picked the plain ones to do these DIYs.Let's see how.

DIY Fire fighter Costume

I'm here with this year's Halloween costume of my toddler son. My son is currently fond of all kinds of trucks. He watches Blippi videos(You know who he is if you are a parent for sure ;) and likes most of his truck songs like garbage truck song, fire truck song, tractor song, etc. Among all those songs fire truck song is one of his favorites. He also watches a video where a fire truck put off and from that day where I ask him what he wants to dress up like for Halloween and his answer would be - Firefighter. One day after a trip to Spirit Halloween shop, I took a couple of pictures(Garbage truck, mailman and firefighter costume) about the costumes they sell and showed him. He was like I want all of these costumes. But I stuck with the firefighter costume:-P. Considering the price of ready-made costume, I wanted to keep the costume budget-friendly at the same time, re-usable. So, Here is how I put together this firefighter costume. 

DIY neck pillow for car

My husband has been using the DIY travel pillow wrapped around the neck of the driver seat in the reverse (front to back) that I made four years ago as a car neck pillow. It has started to fade and worn out and so I thought I will try making a neck pillow especially meant for the car. This DIY was on the to-do list for so long and I finally got a few hours to try this project. I love how simple and easy this project was to make. If you are looking to try a simple sewing project to practice this is a perfect one. It can also be made without the sewing machine as it involves fewer stitches, this car pillow can be easily hand-stitched using the backstitch method. Let's see how.

Hello!!! I'm here after a long time. Hope you all are doing great.  Life has been crazy with unexpected events and I finally found some time to post a simple DIY for you all. My husband met with an accident while crossing the road to his office. He is slowly recovering and trying hard to get back on his own. My days are a bit chaotic with an active toddler who needs my attention all the time, the husband who needs help and other household chores. It's hard to find time for crafting and blogging in between these but my mind always craves for creative breaks wanting to try new projects. I'm here after a long time with a simple yet fun project. Life has been crazy with travel, guests plus a toddler on the priority list. DIY essential oils Storage Case from Ferrero Rocher Chocolate box

I have already shared a tutorial on how to make an organizer tray from Ferrero Rocher box with multiple uses and this time it is an another Ferrero Rocher box turned into a storage case for essential oils. I got a few essential oils to try in the diffuser and it came in a cardboard box which allows you to store the oils flat. I wanted to store them straight up after opening and I was looking for a container to store them. After a few searches on the internet, I came to know that these oils need to be stored in a dark place. When I was brainstorming ideas for this, a moderator from Talenthouse commented on my organizer tray post that there is a contest by Ferrero Rocher. You know I love participating in contests, I did not win the contest but I love how this storage case turned out. Here is the full tutorial on how I did it.  

DIY Stenciled Canvas Art for Nursery/Kids room

It's been two years since we moved to the current apartment and I have not decorated the apartment much as I was pregnant with my son when we moved and then life got busy with the baby. Since his toys and books are increasing day by day and scattered everywhere I needed a proper space dedicated to him. Let's call it his play area, a few months back I got a cube organizer for his toys and books and assembled it in a corner of our living room. I was thinking to do some kind of pretty display above the cube organizer as that area seemed boring. I was brainstorming ideas and wrote down in my to-do list. Emily from Stencil revolution contacted me to try some of their stencils. I thought this will be a perfect opportunity to fill the space I wanted to. DIY Car Costume

(If you are not following me there, you should.😃) I came up with this idea of making a car costume for my son this year as he says "Car" a lot and it is the second word he said after "Amma"(Mom). Whenever we read "Mickey/Minnie mouse" books, he points to the car and says "Ammmmaa....Car". So, I thought I will make him a Mickey mouse car for this Halloween. Let's see how.
