Festival season can be tiring with a 9-to-5 job and kids. To make things easier for you, I am putting together some budget-friendly return gift ideas that your recipient will use and not regift. Over 10 years of hosting Navratri, I have always loved curating simple yet useful thambhoolam ideas. Some years I have had the flexibility of choosing the gifts and shipping them from India, but sometimes I will have to shop around in stores and on Amazon and put together a return gift. With all those previous experiences, I am sharing the ideas I have used and also some budget-friendly ideas.
I will be sharing ideas in the $5 to $15 range for a group of small items put together in an attractive basket or pouch, which will be liked by all of your guests.
Skin care /self care bundle in a pouch :
Start with an attractive pouch and build your return gift based on your budget. I chose a silk brocade pouch and included hand cream, sanitizer wipes, and a couple of organic lip balms in different flavors. Something simple for the upcoming winter weather to add to your handbag with a budget of $5 to $6 per pouch.
Golden goodness gift box:
Doesn't this sound luxurious? In this gift box, I used a ceramic bowl as the main gift and used fillers like saffron, honey, and ginger chews. Based on your budget preferences, you can add or remove items. With everything shown in the picture, this gift box range is around $11-$13.
Including a blouse piece has always been a custom in a thabhulam. Given the practical constraints, people find it hard to use, so I thought about replacing it with something that women all around the world, irrespective of where they live. Along with it, I personally made a laser-cut rangoli, but here I have added rangoli coasters to go with it.
I purchased the kitchen towels in bulk at Costco, as that is where I was able to get them for a better price. But for convenience, I will include links from Amazon. This gift costs around $10- $12
Something festive for Diwali decor + Hair accessories :
I really loved the idea of using balloon LED party lights inside the diyas instead of using oil in traditional diyas. With small children around and carpet/wood floors, it is hard to monitor traditional diyas, but at the same time I wanted to light diyas all around the house. I used this trick to light our house during Diwali(Check these Flameless Diya ideas) , so I got traditional diyas from local indian stores and added Party lights along with them. I purchased kundan stone hair ties & clips from India and added those along with the diyas to complete the gift.

The Urli gift :
I call this a natural humidifier gift that every household should have. If you can find a small brass urli that fits your budget, that is great; otherwise, you can use this gold bowl as a urli, add water-activated LED lights for the glow, and real flowers if you have them or artificial flowers to finish the look. You can package it as a bundle with all the things mentioned above - gold bowl, artificial flowers, and a couple of water-activated LEDs.
